Shopping in Solukhumbu

Well sooner or later I was going to run out of something ... no not loo roll - and so needed to visit Bibare Bazaar held in a medium sized town on Thursdays. As this was in the next but one Village District (VDC) I felt it was a day's outing. I ended up going twice - once with Gabi and a local to show us the way and then again on my own two weeks later to buy shampoo for blowing bubbles but that is another story. The initial part of the walk was the steepest - getting into and across the next valley - but after the first 40 minutes the route wound around the hillsides and was therefore quite flat - really! On both occasions it was a glorious day and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, taking 5 hours to do the round trip the second time: could have done it in less but I was enjoying stopping every now and then to eat the hard boiled eggs and biscuits which I had brought along. On one of these stops I met a very pleasant man who had served in the Ghurka regiments for 25 years and now lives in North Yorkshire: I thanked him for his years of service and told him how much the ordinary people of UK value the Ghurka contribution - even if the politicians won't give them the same pension rights etc. Nanda Raj Rai and I decided to keep in contact and hopefully can meet up once we are both back in the UK - small world! Just realised that these pics have come through in a strange order ... sorry!

Amazing colours in the market square

Walking parallel to the terraces was really lovely - huge bamboos
and locals herding cattle to and from the market

This was taken just a few minutes from the house and you can see the bridge
I was heading for, far below.

Passing a house on the outskirts of the town

The bridge which needed crossing near the start of the walk.

Looking down to the bridge.
