Walking to the village

Bishnu initially told me that this would take 6 hours from Patale which is basically why we decided to take the jeep on the local roads and get a bit closer! So from Doti where we had stayed the night, it was going to take about an hour .. or maybe three! I wish I could say that it was the carrying of the baby which meant that it took us over 2 hours, but in truth it was my lack of adjustment to altitude ... er we were only at 1600m ....so it was really my general lack of fitness and stamina. Anyway it was a glorious morning and we could just make out some snow capped mountains in the distance: apparently Everest is just around the corner! The sun was pretty hot and the slopes steeper than any I had previously encountered ... thankfully some helpers had taken the bulk of our luggage the night before and there were some flatter bits too when we walked round mountains rather than over them. The final challenge, however, was the last stretch which involved descending sharply to a bridge and then ascending equally sharply to the house. But I did it!!!

view from our room

my bed - typical of Nepal

Ladder leads to the bedroom and the toilet is the 'building'
on the left - I will say no more on that!

Setting off

My admiration for Gabi grew with every step - pack on back and baby on front!

Hope you can zoom in, but basically house on right and school on left!

I love my camera! Zoom facility meant that i could see my new home long
before arriving: Pipi (grandma) house on left and niece's (Sakuntala) is the
blue roofed smaller one on the right. She and her 3 children generously
moved out so that i would be as comfortable as possible!

Descending the the bridge which you can just make out going left to right
in the trees.

Bridge built by Gurkha Welfare - I hope they think about upgrading the road at some
point too - greedy I know!
