First few days in Brunei

I am now safely installed into my House/Dog-sit in Brunei and am absolutely delighted with the post! A lovely lady has trusted me to look after her three friendly young dogs whilst she is away for six weeks and I am pleased to say that they have welcomed me without any trouble. I have applied to do voluntary English teaching in a local Chinese tri-lingual school and so visited them on Thursday. The Head of the 600 strong Kindergarden facility where I will be based, showed me around the most sumptuous of settings and we discussed me helping out on three mornings each week. One of my new colleagues will pick me up, which is so convenient and kind. In fact everyone I have met thus far has been very friendly indeed (in school, at the airport, in the market, in the supermarket, at the phone shop, in the Mall) and my non-Muslim status has not been an issue whatsoever despite media reports which I was shown before leaving the UK. Reminder to self: DON”T BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ, JUST WHAT YOU EXPERIENCE! Weather is hot and sticky, but cools down after rain which occurs for between 5 and 90 minutes each afternoon.
Tonight, my 5th here,  I am smelling wonderfully (?) of Tiger Balm as it really does stop the bites, (which I got tonight when watering the garden because I forgot to apply repellent! Argh!) from developing into more than just a red pimple: local remedies are usually the best! Other activities today include visiting the Royal Regalia Building - no photos allowed in the main bit - and spending some time in a shopping mall where I picked up a DVD of Philomena (which has been markedly absent from long-haul flight's film schedules on the cheap airlines which I use) for less than #3 ... NOW where has the pound sign gone?????
Probably won't have much to report over the next few weeks as I am hoping that life will settle into a routine, but I will continue to bore you all whenever some thing vaguely interesting occurs!
