Milan

The goodbyes were very hard ... I will never get used to that bit! However the flight was easy and I sat next to a pleasant Italian who told me exactly how to get from the airport into central Milan ... the airport serviced by the cheap airlines is about 35 miles from the city! 5 Euros later (I cannot find either the Euro symbol nor the apostrophe on this keyboard so please forgive the awful punctuation which will be a feature of the Italian posts!) and I was deposited at the Central station - a few moments later I was sitting in a taxi heading to my Hostel: I really could have walked but as it was dark I thought a taxi would get me there directly ... I have a habit of walking off happily in the wrong direction at crucial times! The hostel was clean and fresh, but shut when i arrived. The gods were once more smiling on me as an Italian girl had arrived shortly before me and had already phones the landlord - I do not have a phone that works abroad so that was just as well! He arrived and let us in, showing us both to the same 5 bed dormitory. No one spoke and so I settled down for the first night of my new adventure.
At 10.30 the next day I met up with my friend Janet whom I had known when she lived in The Vale of Clwyd until a few years ago. She and I spent a very pleasant day exploring the rooftop of the Cathedral, the castle and seeing Leonardo da Vinci Last Supper. I had been looking forward to the latter like a small child at Christmas and was not disappointed! It covers the whole end wall of a large Refectory and is very difficult to photograph due to the system of lighting they have installed. Anyway it is huge!!

Centrale Hostel

Milan has many of the most impressive fashion designers based here.
The small building on the left houses the masterpiece

Not easy to photograph - sorry!
