House sitting draws to an end

So June has arrived and  my time in Brunei is coming to a close: on Monday I will fly to Kota Kinabablu in Sabah (still on Borneo island) and Ramadam starts - however,  the two are not connected! I am intending that my hostess enjoys coming back into her home and so grass has been cut (by David!), windows have been cleaned (joint effort), floors have been washed (all my own work!) and everywhere is shining: I will bath the dogs for the final time on Saturday!
I have enjoyed my time here and much of that has been due to the friendly people I've met. The only downside has been the intense humidity but even that is avoidable if you stay inside with the air-con on. Mosquitoes have been a bit harder to avoid, but I've coped. I have been invited back and there has even been a suggestion of a joint business venture here if i decide to come and stay of 12--24 months at some future date - and I am tempted, but .....

Anyway I will share my last few pictures with you and expect that the next time you hear from me will be from Malaysia.
At the market

So colourful

Squid or octopus?

We went under that bridge - glad the tide wasn't in!

The back of the Royal Palace - the largest in the world
with 50,000 light bulbs and over 400 toilets they say!

Traditional night fishing platform

A property in the Water Village

One of the schools in the Water Village -
they have a police station and a hospital too!

Crab fishing

Kampong Ayre - the Water Village - is home to 39,000 people

Inside the Craft Centre

Beautiful crafts - weaving, batik, woodwork, silverware

The usual mode of transport across the river

Such a shame about tehelitter

A small mosque by the river

All locals carry umbrellas for shade

This mosque can usually be seen between the shops and side streets

The bus driver knows where to stop for me these days.

Night visit to the central mosque - so beautiful and so much cooler too.

Part of the mosque complex

The Sultan's Mosque - possibly the most beautiful building i Have seen

Inside the Sultan's mosque

Fountains are lit up and marble gleams

A stunning building

The domes are made of gold

The mosque at Jurudong

Jerudong mosque has Moorish influences
The Sultan's mosque - quite a few people around
and everyone very happy to see us - no problem
about going inside so long as we did not disturb prayers
 and we were respectfully dressed.
