On arrival in the city of Ulaan Bataar I had been unprepared for the modernity and the sheer size of this capital city, so it was sheer pleasure to head out to the National Park for a night in a gher camp (think we know them as yurts). The scenery was stunning and the hospitality was warm: great food and wonderfully colourful accommodation - the girls even wanted to come in at midnight to stoke up the wood burner, but it really was not that cold! We did a little walking and also visited a herdsman in his summer location and a meditation centre. The icing on the cake was talking with a hunter who uses huge birds to catch foxes and the like - I was thrilled to hold a golden eagle!!

Small powerful horses used everywhere |

Was really surprised to see yak this low - I don't mean drinking I mean altitude! |

Elevenses Nomad style - curd, bread and tea - no fridge though! |
